Modding is extremely important to making sure that long lasting saves can continue. I've been fortunate enough that I got my copy of sims 3 when the final patch, 1.67 was released. I do not have the origin version of this game so I don't have access to 1.69. Minimal CC and mods are what I tend to use, as lots of cc can brick computers. I do not use Sims Resource (the site makes my computer chug) and I mainly use modthesims for most of the mods/cc I install, so these links should still be good for another 5-10 years. Hope this list can help out!
IMPORTANT MODS:
Everything from NRAS is absolutely a MUST HAVE for any sims 3 player. Overwatch, Saver, Story Progression and Mastercontroller are the most important but all of their stuff is honestly pretty good. Their personality type stuff can really chug your computer though.
Supernatural Mods:
I don't like playing with immortal supernaturals (unless they are vampires) and some supernaturals REALLY need the extra love. jesus christ mermaids are nearly unplayable.
Fairyhouse Motive Tuning: Bladder and Hygine
Insect Fairy Wing Replacements
Motive Mobile Rebalanced & Occult Safe
Default Replacements
Sims 3 is a 12 year old game, not everything looks that good in this day of 4k.
General Mods
Just general helpful mods
'No Stretch' Children can series
Painting
For anyone that is a legacy sims player and has to make portraits, I HIGHLY recommend using these portraits to make your paintings not look like complete and utter ASS.
Painting Quality Fixer (absolutely PARAMOUNT for download)
